Take the money now. If you’re up for promotion at B4, you have the skills to do it at another firm. You’ll have less headache not being tied to an accounting firm too when you do make the manager level
Ps - congrats on the kiddo
Thanks!
I was recently approached by a company that specializes in cybersecurity (e.g., Rapid7, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto, etc) for a role as a senior consultant and offered the following: $140K base, a quarterly bonus structure that multiples the bonus percentage (9%) by the avg quarterly bill rate by the total quarterly billable hours (e.g., 9% x $225 x 400hrs), and $80K restricted stock units. By my estimate my total comp would raise by about 35% by accepting this new job.
However, based on conversations I’ve had and indicators from my leadership I’m expecting to be promoted to Manager at my current firm by end of year. I’m unsure of what that would mean regarding an increase in base pay, but I would assume at least 15%.
Should I jump ship and move to a speciality firm with considerably more total comp (knowing I’ll still be a Senior Consultant) or stay at my current firm, hope for the promotion and the pay increase that comes along with a promotion?
Are you 4 yoe as SC or total 4 yoe? Seems like the other offer is better if you want to get out of consulting, if you want to stay in consulting stay
take it
Would you mind waiting 6 months or are you in a rush to leave? I think 3-4 months as a big4 manager will pay dividends down the road.
I wasn’t looking to begin with. I have some former co-workers who reached thinking I was a good fit and I took the call with the recruiter out courtesy to them.
I would rather make the decision to stay or leave now. I’ll be having a kid in the next 6 months and want to make sure I’m able to take advantage of paternal leave. I don’t think it would look good to stay, get promoted, take the leave, then immediately bounce.
Update: Security firm updated the offer based on my counter. Base now :$150K with an additional $25K in RSUs.
