Looking to lateral in to a corporate firm. What firms care more about experience and not grades?

Smaller firms?

Kirkland?

None for this year and next year.

Depends on your year and experience and the level of new firm. At year 2 from a midlaw firm? Almost every big firm will care about grades. 5th year at Latham? Almost no one will care about grades. 6th year at DPW trying to go midlaw? Id guess no one even looks at your grades. Gibson Dunn is the firm known most for caring about grades longer than anyone else.

Mayer Brown is good for this. Also depends on the partners. I have other firms I can discuss with you - drop me a message if you want to chat!

Anyone else feel like they got into the wrong line of work? I like my co-workers but hate audit work and I am not excited about any of the long term jobs I've seen people take. I feel like I would do better in a trade but am nervous to just throw away my degree/experience/CPA. Just curious if anyone ever overcame similar feelings.

Is it possible to be a “silent” investor (party A) with a friend who’s an accredited investor (party B)investing in a company? Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.

Rising 2nd year here: been rethinking my choice as an M&A attorney. I've had a rough go of it over the first year-and-a-half of practice and am thinking about moving to a different practice area. I'd like to stay on the transactional side, but am not quite sure what areas I can leverage my corporate and M&A skills in. I was thinking T&E (i.e. business succession planning, etc.)

Would greatly appreciate input from others.
