The fact that this falls under "disability" in the U.S. is just pure garbage.
@sp1 Parental leave is in no way a vacation. It is literally survival.
Also, we need people to have children so our economically stable in the future.
Hey @SP1, if you want to explode something out of your genitals the size of a bowling ball, then I totally support you getting paid time off to recover. Also if you'd like to have your stomach opened up and organs shuffled around so a surgeon can remove something the size of a bowling ball, that's also acceptable.
Yep. This is true for many small businesses. I'm a mom already and would love anothee, but I'm not sure we can do it at my job. I'm the primary bread winner in my family and already am underpaid for my job.
Yay, being a working mom in America!
@SP1 what you've described is called a sabbatical. if you need that time for your mental health, then take it but don't knock on parental leave. it's beyond important that we respect it and shameful that we don't.
Here in Germany it's law that mom and dad together get 13 months (yes: months, not weeks), which they can split as they like, if one parent takes minimum two months.
There is only short term disability. It's tragic. Honestly? Stresses me out thinking about it.
Is there paternity? And yes the way we treat maternity and mothers is terrible.
Is there leave for me. Who chose not to get people preggers?? I feel jealous that I can't get a few months.
It's a two faced bitch - even when there are generous leave benefits, expect career stagnation and punishment when upon return.
@SP1 They don't have to. It's law for all. Client employees have the same right for 13 months.
We have 3 months paid maternity and 6 weeks paid paternity at FCB.
@CW2 how do they convince the clients to pay for that???
12 weeks parental leave here, for primary caretaker and 2 (ew) weeks for secondary caretaker.
Wow, autocorrect is a b. :) let's try that again...

Really? I thought we were getting overpopulated and would need to double food production by 2050?
12 weeks paid for mom, 2 weeks for dad. Plus for the first month back, you are only required to work 4 days per week. Special circumstance births like Nicu or multiples gets 16 weeks paid.
