I don’t think this was the right move exactly. People are complaining about workload not comp. Goodwin is giving all associates a 1 week fully paid vacation, which probably costs less money than $10k but having a week off in addition to any regular vacation is a step in the right direction.
Goodwin also raised salaries to match Milbank. The paid vacation rollout was announced before Milbank announced salary increases.

DPW will go higher. This was Milbank’s effort to avoid that. But top NYC firms are going higher. 2nd tier won’t match IMO. Luckily top firms are hiring and will pay that in other markets too.

There really needs to be a minimum amount of vacation that associates need to take - just like banks. Firms move to unlimited vacation to avoid paying out unused vacation when people leave (fired or quit). People never take it whether they have banked hours or not.
