I don't think so, I know fans of video games that use them as an escape from reality so they would never do the things they usually do in a video game.
Most gamers use it as a distraction, I don't think that after that they will decide to join the army since everything is completely different.
In some cases they do, after trying the video game they decide to join the army to take it to real life but many regret it because they did not make the decision for the right reasons.
It sounds crazy, but a lot of people get into the army just for the sake of being in uniform, so I wouldn't be surprised if they also get elected for a video game.
In my opinion, games, where you are a heroic soldier who saves the world, have always been nonsense, an example of that is a game like Metal Gear, but Call Of Duty does not tell you about a hero, it tells you about the ability of the army to exercise their power, that is something that attracts anyone.
I have always thought that these games are a very good way to get children/young people interested in weapons, and the best way to carry a weapon in our country is to go to war, but for that, you must be a military man first.
I have always thought something similar to your question, but my thoughts go further, if games like this had existed in Vietnam times, I think people would have supported hippies more, I am a veteran of the Vietnam War and at that time the country hated Vietnam but when you went to the Vietnam war you saw that those people did not know what was really happening.
The games that refer to wars are by far a problem for our society, the ease with which they explain to a person how a weapon works in every way is a problem.
I do think that video games affect how young people see warfare. I believe they like to think that it's as cool as it is in videogames, but they don't realize that there is a huge difference between real life and the virtual world, they're too young for it.
I think that videogames DO hide the conflict of war. Call of Duty is just you running around firing shots and if you die, you respawn. Real life doesn't let you respawn lol if you die, you die.
I've never been one for warfare videogames. I think they glamorize violence, and since the invention of online gaming where people from all over the world can get together, they use voice chat and spew racist, misogynistic, and homophobic remarks without any consequence. It's rotting kids' brains.
