There were assurances things would change when he got back. They HAVE NOT. This feels like being married to an addict. Im done.
Get out of there while you still can and try not to let it drag you down. When the company is solely based on connections and not accountability it isn't worth the time. While our industry may be more lenient than others, there still needs to be a line.

Are they still occasionally delivering results? I ask because you mention the ECD loves them. Or is it just a case of looking after their friend? ALWAYS do what’s right for you - so if you (understandably) don’t wanna work under that then absolutely leave. And tell your ECD why. But if you think they’re a self destructive maniac that could catch lightning in a bottle and help your career then maybe considering sticking around.
They’re friends. He’s not brilliant enough to put up with. He’s really just good at taking credit.
