10 YEARS?? If they are that worried tell them to pay you more lol
10 yrs for a couple thousand seems excessive, lol. Either way have them pay for it and if you leave, you owe it back if they ask for it.
They have to do more than pay for your CFP to expect you to stay for 10 years. Doesn’t seem normal.
Larger companies invest thousands in new employees for training with zero contingencies or maybe less common 1-3 years. My firm covers over 40 certificates & designations through reimbursement up to $3k per year. No contingencies.
Thank you for the responses. I see myself leaving within a year or two after I pass for a better opportunity - it seems I will most likely have to pay them back regardless.
Just FYI, I negotiated a 6 figure salary without my CFP. Don’t hold yourself back at a place where you are unhappy.
Yep, JPMorgan was 2 years. 10 years is unacceptably long.
Definitely not a fair trade! 10 years of your career in their control for $10k at the absolute max? Heck no!
10 years is utterly outrageous. I had to pay an old employer back for my CFA exam when I left within 3 years but I knew that when I agreed to have them pay for it. 2 or 3 years, maybe. 10 years is beyond acceptable.

10 years?! I’ve come across 2 in my previous roles
10 years is ridiculous. The forgivable loans (multi million dollar sign on bonuses) don’t even typically force you to stay that long. Companies paying for MBAs don’t even require that length of time. For a couple thousand that’s absurd
10 years is way too long. 3 years max
10 years ?!? That is like a third of year career life ? Wth
