My ex-ECD wants to throw me a leaving do 1 month into my 3 months of gardening leave after a tricky exit. Was sad about not being able to do one at the time but have emotionally left now. Should I?

'Gardening leave' is what us English call our paid leave between jobs. I'm going to a competitor so they pay me not to be in the office for my notice period. I have also been doing some gardening. But that's just a coincidence.

I don't understand what I just read. What does gardening have to do with anything?

Yeah. I've noticed English is generally not a strength in ad land. I'll translate (or attempt to): - she worked with an ECD - it didn't work out - she left a month ago, and is emotionally over the job (questionable) - they didn't throw her goodbye party - they want to now, one month later - gardening has nothing to do with the storyline; she was just sharing - her question was if she should let them throw her a goodbye bash

"Eating well is the best revenge." Go. Drink their booze. Eat their finger sandwiches. Show them the healthy, happy, tanned person you are. Make them wonder why this fabulous person is not with them any longer.

Jesus christ, that was a sentence? Sorry, I'm lazy as hell, and often wonder what the minimum acceptable level of communication is, but I'm genuinely not understanding what you're trying to convey.

@CD OP was I wrong? I may have assumed that "I was sad ...but have emotionally left now" was girl-speak. My bad 🤗

Ok decoder ring'd: They treated me like shit. Do I do them a favour by making it look like they treat their best creatives really well?

Do it and put it behind you. Don't burn bridges (do you say that in the U.K.?:)), and don't let them know they got under your skin or let them think you're petty for refusing.

do you care about the people you were responsible for enough to say bye to them? think about their needs too. they may have just lost a leader they respected and may want to follow in the future ...
