My firstborn is due in just over a month! Was wondering if anyone can provide any tips or insight for a first time parent!

Take as much time off as you possibly can. In 18 years, you won’t care how much money you missed out on. Your wife will really need you. Make sure you give her time each day if possible to have alone time (shower/gym/etc) or whatever she does for “me”time. Make sure you guys get time to talk each day. When it permits, get some dates in. Even if it’s just a walk.

As far as your kid goes, here is my advice. Be strict on the schedule. Infants, babies, kids, teenagers thrive on structure. As soon as possible, get the baby in their own room as soon as possible. Mine were in there own room and bed by 2 months I believe. It was a rough first week but after that all my kids slept 6-9 hours straight.

Don’t be that parent that gives a baby or kid a device to “occupy” them. Hold off on screen time as long as possible. Limit sugar as much as possible. Don’t reward kids with food. Make sure your kids see how much you love your spouse

Spiritually, we are Christians. Raise your child to knows it’s creator from day 1. We were not Christians in the beginning of our parenting and things drastically changed once we did.

I just spent a week with my daughters first born. Take all the help you can. If baby sleeps, you sleep. I spent one day having lunch with her. We were talking about how she knew time would fly by. I looked at her and said, “you have 18 summers with him and that’s it. Make them count”. As the kids grew older, we made a summer bucket list. It usually included the beach, a movie, yogurt place, a museum etc, Take a day off and go have lunch with them. They will cherish the memories. Congrats to you both. .

Question about inclusion…. I’ve been teaching inclusion for 5 years so I’m still a newb, but a first year coworker of mine said she got points off on her observation because her kids were scattered in the classroom and she was having to move from kid to kid to assist. While I see the point of putting them together for convenience, I don’t agree with this at all! To me this is like singling them out by putting them all together instead of INCLUDED amongst peers. What do y’all think?

Ok, I’m gonna say this. Schools should open. Now hear me out. My wife is a family doctor, she is working insane hours, she is treating covid patients, and there is a lot of days when she has to stay at the hospital without coming home. My neighbour works in a local grocery store, so he has been at work since the Day 1 of lockdown. So if you need medical help, or want to eat, it’s ok for those people to be at work, but their kids have to stay home? Cont’d >>

Just found out that my favorite aunt, who claimed I was her “favorite” niece, chose to leave all her valuables to her other two nieces who never visited or called her once in the last ten years. My aunt passed away suffering from cancer last year and didn’t have her own kids. I was there by her side throughout her battle. I still wish I had done more, made her life easier. I probably sound petty, but a part of me is forcing me to re-evaluate every interaction I ever had with her.

I had a break up and it was me who messed up. I blame myself all day and constantly have dreams of her. It’s been few months. I try to smile a lot or stay busy but randomly I cry out loud and burst into tears, I think I’m depressed. I also live alone don’t have a lot of friends and I’m 36. Can you please recommend a good therapist (I know you have to try multiple to find the right one)? And what else can I do to bring my self esteem up. Thank you

Started at a big firm in July with high hopes- in the career path I wanted and I would be joining with other new grads.
After onboarding, it’s as if my team forgets about us every day. The training is non existent, there doesn’t seem to be any initiative to invest in new hires, my manager scolds me for not knowing enough yet gives no direction. I don’t want to waste time (colleagues mentioned it doesn’t get much better from here). Do I embrace the suck or look for other opportunities?

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I thought I’d have the upper hand with the nursing shortage but I’m getting the “rules are rules” response. Help!?!
