In my view , always look for better opportunities. These questions assume that you will have a job as soon as you start looking. It will not. Probably months. You can decide if you actually have options. Right now, you’re trying to figure out if you should even pursue an option. The answer is yes.
On layoffs and recession etc. Firms are super cautious about hiring these days. If you get a good offer today, it probably has a much better business case compared to when it was free for all. So I don’t understand why folks think that getting hired during over - expansion is safer than when companies are actually trying to hire sensibly
You may still get laid off. But you may get laid off at IBM as well if things get really bad. There is 0 way to predict these things.
Yeah, I mean what is the harm is that ? If you get a really great offer , you can check company’s latest performance, if that unit has been profitable etc . If you don’t feel comfortable , then don’t join.
No harm in trying to find a better opportunity in any environment.
As a former IBMer, one of the best decisions I made in my career was leaving IBM.
Good to hear! What do you enjoy at Deloitte that you did not see at IBM? Thank you.

How urgent is it? Job market isn’t exactly on the rocks right now, though I do think that 1) there seems to be an increasing proportion of smaller firms hiring to poach layoffs from larger firms so the opportunities are not as exciting, and 2) an economic downturn in the next ~9 months could put a target on your back as a newbie.
The job market is on fire right now. Go ahead and start looking for jobs

From what I’ve personally experienced, the consulting industry has certainly slowed hiring over the past few months. Doesn’t mean it isn’t happening, but there are fewer positions with the same or more candidates. Haven’t really looked at industry outside of big tech, which has also slowed quite a bit
