FaceTime. Prep everything you can ahead of time (diapers, laundry, groceries). Call in an assist from grandma
How long are you gone? A week she’ll be fine, 6 months you may need to reconsider your project
Get a nanny for sure
Thanks all. One week right now, but it may become pretty regular.
Usually do this with 2 kids at home, wife gets nanny 2-3 days of a 5 day travel for sanity reasons
You can spend your way out of this in the short term, but it sounds like this is your first professional reckoning with a major change in your personal life. I would think in terms of what you would like your life to look like in the next 1-2 yrs vs what to do about this trip. FT help or no international clients are the two poles. You get to decide the set point.
I try to cook meals in advance for my wife so she doesn’t have to cook for herself. I also try to get extra housekeepers when I’m gone for extended periods of time so she has less clean up to do

For a week? It'll be fine. For a project? Deal breaker.
Nanny for sure. I’ve been in same boat and found that biggest headaches is doing meals, baths, etc alone when kid is fussy. Having extra set of hands to let wife chill out and not be stressed is worth every penny. Agree with MC1 that you need to sort out your long term plans. I’m there with you now and it’s a hard reckoning. Hardest part of consulting IMO. No real end in sight either if you want to move up the consulting ladder
