Lost bonuses are normally made up for in a signing bonus, but a 401(k) match you typically just lose. This is part of the reason why people normally need a significant raise for it to be worth it to switch jobs.
Possibly ask for signing bonus, or restricted shares that have the same vesting schedule as your old 401k.
Annual salary to make up for a missed vest doesn’t make sense (though of course negotiate for as high as you can).
You might just have to give it up.
Ugh, lost match and RSUs a few times. You can try to justify a sign on but I didn’t get too much love with that. I really wanted to move on, so just looked big picture and long term benefits of jumping ship.
New employer might have same match and then the true-up contributions so probably not much difference in the 401k.
A new employer could drop $17k in your 401k on day 1 if they wanted. IRS rules allow for the employer and employee contributions (combined) to be up to $66k in 2023. You can always ask and the worst they can say is no. If they wont do that, then try to work it into a signing bonus then max out a traditional or Roth IRA for the next 3 years.
