New director in the accounting advisory / deals group and beginning to consider exit opportunities as I don’t want to pursue partner. I’m interested in what people think about pros / cons of public company vs. private, assistant controller vs. financial reporting and/or technical accounting director, large company (2B in revenue or above) vs smaller. Also interested in growth paths (should I shoot for corporate controller one day or something else?) Any perspectives are much appreciated!

Assistant controller is probably way below your salary band. I would expect controller or higher. With deals experience at a director level I would target corp dev or finance in a PE backed, acquisition oriented company as opposed to a large public company. Your skillset will be more valuable. And for me, large and public companies have become goliaths that have grown too slow and entangled in their own mess to be interesting. Just red tape and headaches imo

Why not partner?

like

I’m in a similar spot. How much total comp are you targeting? It seems like most roles I can find are around ~250k but I feel like I could be selling myself short.

like

The roles I have been seeing in corporate are around 220 + 20% bonus, with some having 20% equity. That’s in HCOL

like

If your end goal is chief accounting officer, I’d pursue assistant controller roles at large public companies or controller positions at private companies. Assistant controller at a large public has broad responsibilities and is directly in the chain to CAO. Technical accounting experience/knowledge will only get you so far and you probably already have that from your time in accounting advisory.

Can someone explain the difference between FB’s Partner Solutions Manager and the Strategic Partner Manager? From an initial recruiter call, it seems the SPM provides the consultative product recs while the PSM onboards the client onto that product and tracks performance to provide actionable recs as needed. Anyone know career growth and salary for these two? I don’t want a sales heavy/only lateral growth role like their client solutions manager roles so these seem like good compromises?

Please who knows about the advisory practice within the PwC financial crime unit (Canada Acceleration Centre)? I understand it is a client non-facing advisory role. Would it be a good career decision for someone coming from GRC firms like Kroll, Control Risk or Exiger? I am concerned about the negative reviews relating to the PwC acceleration centres in general, and getting stuck in a role which does not provide growth opportunities. Thank you.

I’m hoping someone might have some ideas about this- I’m currently five years out of law school with a clerkship, a tax LLM, 3 years of experience doing transactional tax work and a few months of EC/VC experience (which I recently switched to from tax). My salary just got frozen @ 55.5k (SALT Tax, 1 year of experience). Should I start interviewing for other jobs? Worth it to stay 1 more year and “maybe” make senior? (PwC is 3 yrs to senior standard, 2 yr is early)

I have a Master’s in Accounting, and have 1 more CPA test then I’ll be done. Not sure if I have a strong enough resume to receive decent exit opportunities as a first year associate. I’m about to have busy season again and work 60,70,80,90 hour weeks at my low salary. Please advise!!

CFP study programs:

I'm a little confused on Danko - does he offer a self-study option for the coursework requirement? On his website it looks like each module has a 4-day virtual class which I wouldn't be able to attend due to working full time. Does this program also include self-study material, and the classes are just supplementary/optional? I was also looking at Dalton for self-study and Danko for test prep. Thoughts?
