Yosemite has awful crowds this time of year. You’ll spend an hour just trying to move 1 mile within the park. Food halls and camp grounds are completely packed. Do you have reservations already?
Exactly, agree that the restrictions due to COVID has made it better. Good luck! Recommend if you are driving highway 1 to Big Sur… a restaurant on the Road has spectacular views and tasty food. Nepenthe is the name, don’t miss it
What does being a New Yorker have anything to do with you visiting those spots?
That information provided context.

Skip Palm Springs unless you wanna roast in 110°+ heat. You’ll just stay inside your hotel room or under the misting fan by the pool all day. Not really worth the $.
For LA, Smorgasborg is back this weekend on Sunday (recs: super frites, wanderlust creamery, moo’s craft bbq). My NYC friends from CA deeply miss Mexican food so try that in both LA and SD (recs: leo’s tacos, lowkey burrito, chuy’s tacos dorados, tacos a cabron, and my taco in LA; california burritos and the taco stand in SD). Korean food in LA is the best outside of Seoul (2nd highest population of Koreans in the world) so def check that out (recs: hangari kalguksu, seongbukdong, chef kang sul box, kobawoo house, hasunsaeng master ha, chicken day). Also not directly in LA but if you like Asian food, 626 Night Market in Arcadia is back. Just check out the Infatuation or Eater LA for other tips on LA food. Now from a things to do standpoint, it depends how long you have. LA is extremely spread out and the options I just gave above are all over the city. Definitely check out the beaches (avoid Santa Monica and Venice, go to beaches in Malibu or down in Manhattan Beach instead), avoid Hollywood, go out in DTLA and Weho or check out the bars in Midcity and Santa Monica, hike in Pasadena or Topanga area, walk/bike the strand from Santa Monica down to Newport, go shopping along Abbot Kinney.
For SD, check out the gaslamp quarter with all the bars and stuff. If you’re into animals, the SD Zoo and Safari Parks are really well done, even for an adult. Other food recs: breakfast republic, 3Ten Churro Bar, barleymash, alforon, menya ultra mira mesa.
Have fun!
Thanks so much!!! :)
Go to touloumne if it gets crowed in the valley. Did you get permits for half dome? How are you planning on driving down? If you're into hiking the eastern sierras are truly amazing and very few crowds. Where do you plan on staying in LA?
LA has a ton of great food, depending on what your budget and preferences are. Definitely try out some taco spots (Leo’s, Teddy’s, Tacos 1986, and El Flamin are some of my favs). Also has some of the best Korean food in the country, no contest compared to nyc
Wow…will definitely have to try some Korean food!!

San Diego is eh in my opinion - but I love Santa Barbara if u can make it out there
Sonoratown for tacos in LA. Tacos el gordo for tacos in SD. Oscars or TJ oyster bar for Baja California Mexican. Pacific beach fish shop for fish tacos. SD had great waterfront restaurants in downtown. Check out brigantine and there is a bar above it on the water. Also coasterra is a great restaurant. Go kayaking in the La Jolla caves then get lunch at Dukes.
Also best brunch in SD is at morning glory but be prepared to wait.
Palm Springs is in the 100s this time of year
Id skip Palm Springs unless you're visiting friends. It os miserable even when spending every second in the pool.
For LA not sure what you are into or comfort level but https://la.smorgasburg.com/ or https://www.grandcentralmarket.com/ are good places to walk around and try good food. If you are into art - following are free: the broad, Getty, and Getty Villa (Getty & Villa you have to pay $20 for parking). But LA is terribly laid out so I'd plan food/excursions by neighborhood and plan on staying in one area etc. if you are looking to go out - I love WeHo - we catch a drag show in the area and then go out (im a bravo fan and all the vanderpump bars are in the area)
Coming from NY, the broad doesn’t hold a candle to NY museums. I say skip it and just go to the Getty and Getty villa (Malibu) if you have time. Traffic in LA has gotten back to pre Covid levels
For ktown go to sun nong dan. This is something that I haven’t seen done this well at Korean restaurants in the US. Quarters for kbbq.
Are you renting a car?
Yes!
