My wife has always been able to get to sleep earlier than me. We would mix who would take the late evening feeding then she would crash by like 9:30ish. I would do the feeding around 11/11:30. Wife took the 2:30-3ish the. I took the morning one (6-7) and stayed up. So basically my wife would get like 4-5hrs straight, then another 4ish after the feeding. I would get about 6-7 in one go.
None of that really came together though until we moved from bassinet in the room to crib. Feedings in the room just woke both of us up so everyone was awake.
Have three myself, bottle is the best way to go, but I don’t know if any tricks to make it easier other than switching between who’s taking the night shift.
When baby’s eating every three hours - I’d do my best to let my wife sleep from 12 to 6.
Same for every 4 hours - this is a bit easier though because in theory one of you could head to be early at like 8, and wake up for the 2:00am feed, while the other stays up for the 10pm feed, and wakes up early for the 6am morning feed. But it’s very ambitious especially when you have two others to cooperate schedule-wise.
Luckily enough as long as you’re both consistent with feeding times, there’s an end in sight as to when you both get to sleep for a full night
I have 3 kids. Remember this is only for a couple of years. Just push through and you will be fine. I had twins and it was crazy the first few years.
Cherish The First Six Weeks by Helen Moon. Established a very structured bottle schedule and bed time including dream feed for our baby. Can’t recommend it enough. Baby was sleeping through the night by week 7 after maintaining this schedule. Babies need it and you be thankful you have it.
Sleep when the baby sleeps, do laundry when the baby does laundry, clean when the baby cleans. You got this.
My wife went to bed early and I stayed up late. I’d watch our daughter from 6pm-3am and sleep from 3-9. We just took it in shifts.
Thank you all!
