Not sure if this is the right Bowl or not, but.. I was trying to do some research into the best and worst parts of working in a finance team (and focusing more on the smaller teams in smaller orgs), whether on the FP&A side, or financial management/reporting side, or wherever. What are the best bits of the job? What are the bits that make your role painful/hard work/dull? What are you really looking for when looking for the next role? Glad this community is anonymous btw!

Best: business partnering and influencing decision-making
Worst: (depending on company) accruals; reporting

Best: working with the business
Worst: depending on the company, the access to accurate data can be extremely problematic and much of your time could be spent gathering information vs doing real analysis. Just because a company is “big” doesn’t mean it has its s**t together data wise.

Things are apparently going to get better after a client will be leaving, I’ll get to work on different brands but I am feeling pretty burnt out from the agency I’m at. Will new clients help? Or should I look elsewhere. Been at the agency almost 3 years, I feel like I need to switch things up for my sanity.

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?

An opportunity has risen that I will be getting a promotion from Manager to Director. I am a senior employee and historically have gotten anywhere from 5.5% - 10% raises in the past. What would be an appropriate promotion to director percentage raise? I am happy where I work and don’t want to go anywhere, but also want to be respected in a role with more responsibilities.
