Offer for Protiviti - I need help for insight.

Hi all, I have an offer for 63k in the Phx office for entry level tech consulting. Just wanted to know if I should negotiate for a higher salary or potential sign on bonus. I was also curious about the promotion structure for the company. To my understanding, promotions are more frequent than B4 due to it being smaller in the consulting world and was wondering how long it would take to hit senior consultant and manager levels.

That's good for a "first job." Keep pushing up thereafter.

You’re welcome to negotiate but it’s generally unlikely they’ll offer more given you’re entry level. After about a year your salary is generally adjusted for inflation/performance.

P1 is spot on with promotion timelines. If you’re looking to make senior after 2 years, work hard, be proactive, and build your network.

The campus hire offers are coordinated nationally and I don’t think we negotiate at all. Promotion to SC happens at 2, 2.5, sometimes 3 years. (2 & 2.5 is most common). Senior to Manager is 2.5 or 3 years typically. At manager level and below we do promotions two times each year (hence the opportunity to be promoted at half years).

What I have learned during my career (16 years in tech) is that during the hiring process you should always negotiate. This is the one time and place you have leverage (the company already wants you and is more than likely to offer you a bit more). Beyond your initial hiring it is hard to get more than a standard yearly raise or bonus. Worst thing that will happen is they will say no they can’t go any higher. I would say go for it! Good luck!

Anyone can have leverage, no matter if it’s an entry level position. Leverage can come in the form of a highly ranked education, internships that directly relate to your job, leadership positions you had in college, advanced degrees, competing offers, and more

Always negotiate! I am a campus hire who started in July. I have my masters so I used that to negotiate. I got my signing bonus for the Chicago office bumped up from $2.5k to $5.5k! It makes me so disappointed when people tell entry level positions not to negotiate. The worst they can say is no!!

C to SC promotions typically happen after being in the C role for 2.5 or 3 years. Sometimes exceptional Cs or Cs that interned with Pro will be promoted at 2 years.

Promotion from SC to M is typically after being in the SC role for 2.5 or 3 years.

I would recommend negotiating for at least a 5k sign on bonus. That’s what I was offered when I got a Pro entry level position! If you have an offer with another company you can leverage that to get a higher starting salary at Pro

I was a campus hire, got promo’d to SC in less than 2 years.

I also had no prior internship experience, etc.

negotiate! I ended up getting paid more base and also an additional week of vacation time as well.

A recruiter recently asked me for a salary range and I said 100-125K. The recruiter returned and said we could only do 90-100, but there’s no guarantee they can do 100. I’m okay with taking a lower salary, but the range was based on what I saw on levels.fyi, glassdoor and fishbowl. The average salary for this role is 114K. I decided to move forward with the interview process, but now I’m worried that I may have asked for too much initially. Do you think I dropped the ball here?

I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

Recently countered an offer last week, I didn’t receive a reply. Today, the recruiter contacted me to set up a zoom call with a few senior executives, for next week a they clarified it wasn’t an interview but so I may ask questions regarding my concerns. Is it odd I haven’t received a response to my counter?

Hi, I work as a Embedded Software Engineer 4. I have 14 years of experience. I work in Central Jersey (Not NYC).

What is a fair compensation in NJ? My base is currently 134k plus around 20k in bonus plus 7% 401k match. TC around ~160k.
Work life balance is good, WFH 2 days.

Few years ago, I moved from NYC and my base was higher. but in NJ, I had to take a pay cut bec I started family.

I see everywhere 250-350K compensations in NYC, but wondering if NJ is comparable and do I make too low?
