Partners/shareholders - how many hours are you expected to bill on work vs client dev and firm/associate management? My firm keeps saying that "there's no such thing as a relationship partner" and everyone top-to-bottom is expected to log 2000 hours/year on real billable work. Marketing etc is done on top of that. Is that normal?! If so, I'm going to have to totally rethink my life goals.

My firm has an 1800 billables requirement for NESHs and a 1600 billable requirement for equities. People go over that, people go under. People with 5-10 million dollar books typically bill far less than a thousand hours. But some do it all.

Pro bono and DEI hours count, not sure if I remember how much. Nothing else though.

Equity shareholder, no formal billable but I’m still billing over 2000/year

Can firms provide FDD services to their audit clients? I always thought that you can’t provide advisory services to an audit client because of independence, but I just had an MD tell me something different…

Would it look odd to wear a dress shirt and slacks with a pata sweater and a northface outer jacket to an exec meeting at a client where no one wears suits?

I saw some people here who were denied for lack of evidence of relationship with employer for working at client sites.

I currently work from home but could be working from my home office.

I’m a 3rd year at one of the Big 4 (2020 grad) and have been debating whether it would be wise to lateral to Littler. I want to ultimately be at a v100 law firm with market salary at some point; however, I haven’t had much success with lateraling directly from Big 4 to v100 (Paul Hastings, Morgan Lewis, etc.). Any thoughts on sticking it out until an opportunity arises or lateral to Littler in the interim.

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial.
