Sleep when the newborn sleeps; the household and work stuff running through your mind isn’t as important as you think it is.
20 years from now, you won’t remember the project you were on deadline for, but you will remember the time with newborn you missed to do it. So do the newborn thing instead.
Be where you are
Nothing and I mean NOTHING is more important than health.
Set real boundaries early and stick to them, even if you feel guilt (we all feel guilt). Leave when you need to leave. People will figure it out. Our jobs take what they can take - you are in charge of where the line is.
This. And communicate those boundaries to your team. They will actually be better at holding you to them than you will. Don’t carry the weight of knowing you need to leave and hoping it just works out without having to say anything.
If you can’t breastfeed, don’t even worry about it. It’s fine. Really.
Facts! Don’t be harsh on yourself the baby will be okay with formula
Don’t put job over family. Be there for your family. Absolutely no one is irreplaceable at work.
Rising Star
Begin as you intend to go on.
(Your) sleep is more important than anything else. A sleep-deprived grumpy erratic mom is neither good for your baby nor your partner
Your kids are learning from you, teaching them your work ethic and letting them see you succeed and thrive is important too
Yes, sleep when the baby sleeps. When they are awake, they need your energy, your attention. The other stuff will get done little by little. Don’t try to be perfect! Your house will never be clean enough or pretty enough or organized enough. Appreciate the beautiful chaos!
When you become a mom, you’re gifted with a new power that everyone in advertising fears and respects. Don’t be afraid to use it to build healthy boundaries between your family and work. Don’t be afraid to flex. I promise no one will dare to eff with you.
