Beaches in Montreal? Uhh......
Venture out to Old Montreal- a stunning sight to take in
Westin and W is right by Old Montreal. I prefer the W (even if you don't party).
Yes, there are beaches along the river in Montreal. I recommend visiting the mile end and plateau neighborhoods for food/shopping. If you're using points the W is very close to the old port (this is nice to walk around in for a couple hours for sights but it's a tourist trap: Terrible food, cheap souvenirs. What type of food do you like? I lived there for 4 years so I can recommend some spots.
Favorite restaurants: la Salle manger (local, seasonal, farm to table executed perfectly and not hipstery), Pullman wine bar (amazing small plates), salmigondis (fantastic food), the cardinal tea room (British brunch), le serpent (modern fine dining), impasto (Italian), Furosato (sushi), Atti (Korean), Le P'tit Plateau (French). I've got lots more, just tell me what you're into. I say skip Quebec City because of short time period. It's really a half day trip but it'll take you another several hours to travel there and isn't worth it
Here's the area I suggest, between Avenue des Pins and boulevard Saint-Joseph, and between Saint Laurent and Avenue Papineau. There aren't many hotels in this area so I suggest AirBnB. If that's not your style, check out the L'Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Quebec (it's a hospitality and culinary school with a hotel and restaurant under one roof, better proximity to the real parts of the city.
Any other travel recommendations on the northeast coast would be great as well!
Osheaga music fest is in late July
Never been to montreal, just looking for a low-key getaway. Beaches optional!
Drive up to Quebec City....worth a day trip and it's even more French than Montreal. Also a beautiful waterfall that you could hike there
Thanks pwc1. We eat mostly anything, not too picky of eaters, so those recommendations will go a long way. I'm mostly worried about finding somewhere that is enjoyable to spend a weekend that isn't ridiculously touristy.
OP unless you're willing to stay somewhere and not use SPG points, you are limited to center city (offices, McGill campus, malls) and the old port (tourist trap, beautiful old European city vibe).
I'm willing to pay in any currency, whichever has a nice area that has a good mix of relaxing and some adventurous activities.
