PM roles are tough for consultants to get because consulting is project based and not product based, so the general experience isn’t as applicable as you might think.
There’s also the usually tech gap with most consultants which will hinder you. At FB and google you have to know how to code and work with engineers pretty closely.
Also senior PM is out of the question. You’re looking at an L6 PM role tops.
My wife is a PM at FB so let me know if you have questions.
This is helpful..! Thanks D4
SC but following
You gotta know your coding n your tech.
Yeah this is a good point. Your tech background in SQL will not help you much. You really need to understand software, algos/data structures, OOP, etc at a very detailed level.
We just don’t teach this stuff at consulting firms as we’re not in that business. Best of luck though.
Sr product manager at FAANG as a new manager at deloitte is hard!
Any specific blog suggestion?
What kind of work, specifically, did you do? Non-technical analytics people are either PMO or BXLs typically. Neither is probably sufficient to land a FAANG tech role.
I’ve worked on data warehousing, modelling and visualization using SQL, Hive, Tableau and bit of Java. Total 9 YOE - almost all hands on. My main concern is - is it too stretched a goal to try senior mgr or senior product mgr role in FAANG with current M position in Deloitte?
Following.. exactly same profile.
I could've written this post. Same situation. What did you end up doing OP?
Haven’t taken any step but I plan to focus on Amazon and Google though.
