Roofing sales:

This job is a trend that will die. Nobody ever built their fortune door-knocking; it is a short-term money grab. I’m not saying it’s a bad job or that everything is awful; just have something else lined up. Don’t plan on longer than 3-6 months. At that point you can safely say you have real direct sales experience.

I totally agree with this! The company I work for believes that we can make up between $75-$100K a year going door to door. I’ve only worked about a few weeks and already I’m racking up credit card debt because of how much gas I spend traveling. Not to mention that people don’t answer their doors anymore and HOAs/police will follow you and or ask you to leave.

Finally, upper management believes that if you make X amount of knocks you should get X amount of sales magically. This is unrealistic and all they’re doing is dangling a carrot in front of you. I’m def looking for a job that actually provides an income rather than go into more debt and take chances that may or may not work.

Purely mercenary question here: If I'm currently a 7yr working EPLI at an ID firm, and want to break $300k in the next few years, is there a route to get there?

Partnership at my firm won't come close. My transferrable book is probably less than $100k a year. BL is probably not interested in me given my law school tier and current firm. Am I dreaming?

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.
