It wouldn't sit right with me to give up after working so hard to get to where I am now for so long. It may sound selfish but I'm doing it all for myself. And there's no shame in that.
Seeing the highest ranking black finance/accounting professional at my job only being a manager is why I keep going. I try to take an objective assessment of that manager compared to their peers and then also myself against my peers and try to see what I don’t do that could potentially stifle my career trajectory. No Brand name MBA? Never is at Finance Happy Hours or Holiday Party? Doesn’t eat lunch with finance/accounting staff? Do my Deliverables have errors/late? If it’s none of those then find a company That will compensate you, provide the salary, and the responsibilities you’re looking for.
Totally agree and I’ve been contemplating leaving as well. Only thing that keeps me is that I know finance and idk if I’m able/can/should switch fields. I tried once but recruiters kept trying to get me into finance roles.
To me, there's something exciting about feeling like I'm one of the few - like I'm playing their game but better. It's that kind of drive that keeps me going. Idk how healthy it is but that's just me...
I am in the lucky few that enjoys the industry i work in, working in Finance for Gaming is second to none. Getting paid what I do to do this job is what drives me, I wake up excited for work.
