Second yr. Summer Associate at a boutique transactional firm here. Lots of experience in general M&A and securities compliance - boutique firm so I’ve had the opportunity to take several private placements from start to finish line myself.

Trying to make the jump into big law. Grades are good, but not stellar (~40th percentile). Struggled 1L with online classes (Covid) - but steadily improved. Tier 2 school. Wealth management background. Struggling to get big firms to bite. Any advice for me?

It’s also a particularly hard time right now, given the flood of applicants

Gain more experience first before making the jump into big law. I also suggest you start working on your network. Meet people like recruiters and other professionals as much as possible.

Gain the experience and secure your offer. You can always lateral later, but the market is not in a great place right now in terms of hiring first year, big law corporate/transactional associates since a lot of big law firms overhired

like

I would say gain more experience for sure, work on getting that offer because that gives you a good starting point. Hiring is tough as it is, so focus on the opps you have in front of you

like

Top half in 2nd tier school isn’t going to get a lot of interest from big firms. You’re gonna have to earn your stripes at a small firm and then try to lateral later.

And fwiw, no summer associate has “lots of experience” in anything.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. Hi guys, an extension on my previous post. Which company should I prefer:

CitiusTech - 25 LPA- 2 days WFO in my hometown

R Systems - 28 LPA - Remote

YOE - 6.5 years

Looking for stability, decent WLB and good growth opportunity. Difference of 1-2 lacs doesn't matter too much.

These are the final options I have. No more interviews/offers lines up.

Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine.
