Should I be concerned that they want me to start doing SDR work “temporarily” because hiring is slow? I know temporary usually means permanent in sales.

In this job environment, be happy you have work. The fact you're getting paid at all is better than A LOT of people. The job marked is awful right now.

I would negotiate now. Anytime they are "temporarily" putting you in a position, you have no guarantee of when you'll stop doing that work so you need to negotiate now while you have leverage.

That may be a trap. I mean if you are comfortable doing it then go for it, but if you are taking on additional work then there needs to be additional pay. Don't do anything extra for free.

What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.
