Always go and talk to the people. Even if you’re not looking right now you might be later. If you make a good impression they’ll remember you for the future
Go! You might surprise yourself. I went into an interview once with an attitude like “I don’t want this, it’ll just be a backup.” And turns out—my mind was changed after seeing the place and meeting the people!
Go, it’s good practice and you never know what the future holds.
Take every interview and make a good impression! Talk to everyone you can in this industry, even if you’re not looking. That recruiter or CD or whoever could end up in other places where you want to work in the future. It’s also good practice, you should interview at least once a year.
I live by the mantra of “Always take the meeting.” Within reason of course, but mostly yes.
TL;DR - I had an amazing year at a major company working on content I wasn’t interested in until I met the team.
Longer - I was working at a publisher turned agency, had dreams of moving to the west coast and familiarizing myself with the TV and film industry. I got an interview with a major film house working on a big ticket joint venture. Problem, I wasn’t really interested in the content. Once I met the team though, I fell in love with how knowledgeable and scrappy they were. The woman that would become my boss ended up being a huge champion for me getting the role, met my salary requests + relocation to LA from NY and became a bit of a mentor to me. I learned so much (like, I don’t want to go into TV and that LA is fun, but my heart is in NY), got to work on some award winning content and make connections with people that advocated for me getting an even bigger job back east.
Best case adjacent right? Agreed, but even a fraction of that would’ve been worth forcing myself to at least do the 45-min in-person conversation.
Cancel. It’s not worth wasting anyone’s time. However, if you think there’s any chance you’d consider, do it. They might surprise you.
It’s the best way to interview, because they have to sell themselves to you.
