Since it’s 6:33am, I have to rant somewhere. I called the IRS intl unit at 6:02 and am on hold for 25 minutes. Agent picks up, says their badge number extremely fast and asks why I am calling. I answer with, “calling on behalf of my clients regarding their outstanding refunds”. He asks how many and I respond with five (previously told the max amount to discuss). This dude literally hung up on me immediately. I absolutely hate calling the IRS. You either get someone who cares or a POS.

I’m a senior planner leading one brand and there’s a new strategist on the team working on a sister brand. I’m having trouble working in Tax. I’m overwhelmed and am feeling like I’m not producing my best work. I want to talk to someone at work about it but a) I don’t know who to go to and b) feel like it’s not worth it because there’s nothing that anyone can do but tell me to get a different job. Through a lot of comp discussions I heard a lot of talk of “making you whole” when things get better. Am I drinking the kool-aid by believing this? Is this just meant to prevent further questions that the firm does not know the answer to?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?
