All the time. And it’s with men or women bosses/clients for me since most of them are a bit older than I am, and they have older kids. If I could take a leave of absence for a few months, I absolutely would.
Totally. That’s the issue with most of the women I work with. And the issue with the men (any age) is that they either don’t have kids, or their partner/spouse has most of the responsibility for the kids, so their work is not really impacted by being a parent.
It’s not just work. I’m trying to change careers and want to go back to school. My spouse and I have a baby and want 1 more. My spouse acts like me going after a new dream is killing our financial future and he’s being unsupportive. Tons of people do this (successfully, too!). I feel that if it were HIM going after his dreams, it would be expected of me to support my man and put up with the extra load. Women have to deal with family sacrifice and men get to do whatever they want (sorry if that’s so general, but it’s how it seems)
Yes. I talk about this all the time with one of my girl friends - we feel like our spouses are some of the *good* ones and some of the old traditional ways of doing things are just still so engrained. Our jobs and careers take a backseat after marriage slightly and then once kids are in the picture it’s even worse.
Whenever my mom is here i realize how much we’ve lost over the last century with the demise of multi-gen households. Fact is, except for the wealthy, women have always worked. But before, you had so many others around to help. When my mom is here she does so much more than a nanny would. Like this morning I got up and she had the coffee on, dishwasher emptied, and the kids’ breakfast ready. Our culture has me used to living as a nuclear family but sometimes I wish it weren’t like that. I know a lot of grandparents work but if everyone lived under one roof that boomer money could blend with millennial money and fewer people would need to work. Just rambling thoughts as I get ready for another long day!
This is so true!!!
