Longest I went was 8 months. It was a great, much needed step back but also a very very very hard time. Then just as I was going to move in with my parents and start working at a donut shop, got 2 offers in 1 day. Sometimes I wish I took the donut shop job and saw where life took me. 🤷🏻♀️
IMHO the agency model is having to adapt to the changing needs of clients, many of whom are taking work in house or using production companies to execute campaigns. I feel agency’s are going to get further squeezed until the next chapter of the advertising model is formulated.
I was out of work for 12 months but fortunate to have enough $ set aside to see me through. Not easy I know, but try to have a min of 6+ money set aside.
Totally agree with TBWA 1. Especially higher priced folks (200k plus) being pushed out. But not limited to them
Agree with both - I’m one of the newly “squeezed out” $200K+...20 years experience - and opps at this senior level are hard to come by. Everyone now wants digital specialists - I’ve been in media/Comms planning and more of a generalist - tough right now...fingers crossed
Thank you TBWA for taking the time to provide your perspective. Appreciate the advice and that is exactly what I’m doing! have had a few friends who have been through this and they told me the same thing. You simply can’t search for a job 8 hours a day! Trying to appreciate all NY has to offer (ie museums), use the time to explore other interests and learn through online courses. Everything happens for a reason and I’m going to try to stay positive and see this time as a gift.
Poor business decision on the part of agency CCO. Expanded too quickly. Hired too many as we lost clients. And still hasn’t won any new business to cover the loss. Would rather save his “big name” hires. 🤷🏼♂️
Sounds like my agency. 😩
Took 15 months to get a new job.
When i first moved to ny it took me 6 months. I was mortified as i had never been unemployed that long. However i then proceeded to get fired twice over the next 18 months. So perhaps i was better waiting it out for better opportunities....
Currrenly on week 5 - “preparation for client loss.” It’s a tough time!
Same!
