I don’t want you to take this as me talking down to you, but here’s some real talk:
No one is going to trust you to do anything alone for years. You will help. Then you’ll be asked to do things on your own. And then that work will be reviewed and changed by your boss or sup before anyone else ever sees it. This will happen to you thousands of times because that’s how you will learn and expand your skills.
Why am I saying this? Because it’s been two months and you’re already looking for a greener pasture. You haven’t gone through a full planning cycle, haven’t gone through a scoping exercise, haven’t sat in days-long meetings with clients over those things. Do that. And do it with people who already know you and will give you the benefit of the doubt and of their experience.
A year goes shockingly fast, if you still want to move then, go for it. But, don’t leave this soon after you started. And take every single opportunity you can to do something new.
Unless you are bound by contract you can leave at any time. If a better opportunity presents itself, take it. But don’t make a habit of jumping so early. Try to jump to places you won’t mind staying at for a year or two at least. Jumping too often can reflect negatively.
You are young and inexpensive. Great agencies can take a chance on you without much risk. So aim for the best and build your roster. This will pave the way for your career. If you want to be the best you have to play with the best.
This is moronic.
Youve been there only two months.
Stay at least one year.
Ideally 3+.
Prove yourself.
I get feeling antsy, but why would you jump for the sake of jumping? You have a job, you’re making a salary... if you really feel underwhelmed or that it’s not the right fit, by all means leave. You’re completely within your rights to do so. But trust me, the grass isn’t THAT much greener on the other side... make connections, network. You like the agency and your role, so give them at least a year to be fair.
@E1 I understand the sentiment, but an AE is not a glorified intern. Choose your words better. OP is relatively young to be in their role, but an AE typically has at least 1-2 years of solid experience in the industry.
One of the quirks of this industry is that, if you leave a place quite soon after you started, you can always call it “freelance”
An AE is a glorified intern with the perks of being full-time. Take the time to learn, listen and absorb. You will reap the benefits while expanding your repertoire. Pay your dues and you will be rewarded but nothing will be handed to you unless you try.
Looking for instant gratification?
