Waltham is a good 25-30 mins outside the city. Where are you activities taking you? I suggest the Marriott Copley. Don't park there, park at 100 Clarendon garage. 2 blocks away, significantly cheaper.
If paying cash, aloft/element seaport
I would avoid Quincy or Waltham if you're on a personal / fun trip.
Why would you bring a car to Boston? Very bad idea. Either fly there or take a train.
Westin Waltham, ask for a room with 2 queen beds. Been there for some 15 weeks in a row now. Not a super hot hotel but competent.
Cambridge Marriott may be a happy medium. Right on the T so easy access to much of the city.
Marriott in Quincy
It's a easy subway ride to the city
I second aloft/element seaport and the Westin Waterfront is under $300 a night as well. You'll likely have more Sq feet with an aloft or element
