Studies show that people are feeling less confident about their chances of finding or keeping a job right now. Layoff news is everywhere, hiring seems slower, and even well-qualified candidates are struggling to land roles. It feels like the job market has shifted, and I’m hearing more anxiety from both job seekers and those worried about stability. Do these findings line up with what you’re seeing? And for those who’ve navigated a longer job search, what’s your best advice for staying motivated and finding the right opportunity when the market feels tough?

Absolutely seeing this. Hiring has slowed, and companies are being extra cautious about new roles. My advice for job seekers? Network relentlessly. Many hires aren’t coming from job boards but through personal connections. Also, focus on value-driven resumes—show how you impact revenue, efficiency, or company growth. Employers need results, not just experience.

Job security is a myth now—companies will cut people, no matter how great they are. The best thing you can do is always be job-search-ready. Keep your resume sharp, your skills updated, and your network strong before you need a job. The people who bounce back fastest aren’t necessarily the best candidates—they’re the ones who were already prepared.

Anyone have any idea when the hiring freeze might end within AWS ProServ? I’m currently at Amazon and have a TS clearance, PMP & CSM. Instead of leaving, I’d love to go back to my “consulting roots” and join the ProServ team. I’m taking my AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam next weekend. Hoping this freeze is lifted soon.

So, you’ve reached the stage of your career where you care more about cashing a fat paycheck than making “creative ads”. You’d rather have the resources and free time to fulfill your creative itch outside of work than try to sell the next big idea to an 28 year old marketing manager with an annual budget of 150k. Need help thinking through this…Debating leaving to a tech startup. Very early stage ($3-7M ARR), would have a big role leading strategy and Ops. It’s a cash paycut, which is a bummer but the equity would be pretty good. Just nervous about leaving before hitting the full manager role and taking a paycut in this market to bank on equity. For those of you have left, what kind of questions did you ask yourself to know it was the right time?

We interviewed a great candidate, extended a verbal offer and she accepted. We sent the written offer a few days ago but she hasn’t opened it or accepted (it’s expiring tomorrow). Have you ever had to follow up? How did you handle it? My company is small with no HR, so I have to handle the hiring myself.

One of my top talents just put in his two weeks notice and I had nothing to offer him to stay. I told upper management this was going to happen! I’ve spent months asking for a promotion for him, trying to push his career forward and got no traction. I know i did my best. He knows i tried. I still believe i work at a good place but i feel like we’re losing focus. I feel my boss is leaving soon. It’s a mess.

You're a new manager with direct reports. One of your directs is very determined. You consider yourself a good manager so you want to help them grow. Does anyone else just not even want to be a people manager anymore?! The amount of work this is taking, I’m just so over it. Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?
