Thank you all for your responses. The variety of advice in itself helps me feel better knowing this is a truly individual choice with valid pros and cons on either side. It’s comforting to see I am not alone no matter what’s decided.
Ask if he and a caregiver can come. I think in order for shit to change, we have to keep asking and being vocal about our needs (outside of anon mom groups). Be the change mama!
Any chance you can bring kiddo and a nanny with you? Almost 2 weeks is a long time to be away. Is he use to staying with another caregiver regularly at night or with you? (And most importantly- what do you want to do in your gut? It’s okay to go, if you truly want that. It’s also okay to decline and stay with your little one. Think about which option will bring you more peace of mind)
Is your partner able to be home with your kid? If so, definitely go.
Not knowing the situation with your partner - I’ve always found that long work trips (especially when the kids were young) were more of a strain on my marriage than really even noticed by my kids. Did they miss me and vice versa? Sure. But they have zero sense of time and 1-year-olds especially don’t have a clue 😆 If your relationship can handle it and it truly is life-changing work that in your heart you want to see through, jump on it. If you’re cool sitting it out and won’t be resentful when you’re at home changing diapers while everyone else is on-set, then go that route. You do you. Your kiddo will be great either way!
It’s much more standard to have baby and care giver travel for shoots that long. I’d ask... you should not have to choose.
For this specific project— I’m gonna disagree with people saying to be bring the kid. You need to focus and you should go into this shoot ready to absorb ALL of it— good, bad, ugly. What I’m saying is, you need to be 100% present on this one. It’s an incredible opportunity and it may never come again. You’re a Sr Writer which means you could be the person who throws a wild line out on set that makes the whole spot. Not to say you can’t do this when your kid is back at the hotel, but I know that I would be checking my phone like a freak, not fully concentrating or immersed in the moment that could inform the rest of your career.
The first time i heard it I was like 🤯
I would definitely go.
What did you end up doing?
I would go too. FaceTime is a wonderful thing!
