Do you like barely life sustaining summers? A place with the character of a mall?
Worked there for about 4 years. The city can be fun for the first 6 months, but then become dull, fast. If you’re a foodie you’ll love it, though. Culture wise you won’t feel that much of a difference as they’re always opening more and more to western culture. You’ll meet people from anywhere in the world and that is an immense cultural enlightenment, you’ll hardly find it anywhere in the world. From a work perspective I would say the agencies that are constantly doing good work are BBDO, TBWA, Ogilvy. But also Saatchi (they have great writers in there), Leo, FP7 and Serviceplan are doing cool stuff. Also, offices there are usually small in numbers, so you’ll get your hands on a lot of projects, and boost your experience up by a lot. I wouldn’t bother about the weather. True you can’t do much between June and September, but you’ll be at beach from October till May, so, there’s that. And you get to travel everywhere in Asia for cheap cheap money.
Thanks for such a detailed deep dive @ACD. I'm really interested now

It’s not hard at all they will probably shower you with money. I wouldn’t do it in a million years. Have a lot of friends that went for a short stint, made cash, awards and left.
The thing about a place that is like a mall is not a joke, that’s pretty much it.
Being a tourist in Dubai is very different than living there. Huge cultural differences, and a foreboding climate. The extravagance is not worth it, imo.
The thing about roget sterlings (maximum inspo on a few levels not all cause of obvious reasons any hoo) was that his place was built after he was in office. It’s a small yet interesting tidbit one worth noting.
Have several friends there and they love it.
