I would strongly recommend doing the bare minimum while job searching if you can manage it. Seriously. Put forth your best effort and just sign off whenever you’ve had enough for the day and do your best to take your mind off of it.
If you can’t manage it, I think this move will be a minor setback financially and career-wise. But I am sure you will be fine in the grand scheme of things.
I did this for couple times due to burnout. I don’t have any problems with it. One month ago, I did this again due to new toxic manager. I’ve found a job after a week thru a recruiter.
I did this last month and it's been great for my mental health. The real success here is that you’re freeing yourself from a place or job you dislike. If you’re hoping for an inspiring story about someone who quit without a backup plan and then landed an amazing job or made a fortune starting a business, it may be time to rethink what success means for you. Good luck with your journey!
I did this with only 3+ years experience MBA & CPA and was 26. Quit and went back to school for something else.
Went and traveled around the world for 9 month with money I had saved up while I waiting for the semester to start. Ended up dropping out because of a family matter. Came home and found job easily even being 2 years out of work.
Some might not consider that a success story but IMO it was the greatest decision I ever made. I gained a lot of great life experience that helped me when I came home and started looking for work again. Prior to quitting I lacked energy, drive and confidence to adequately market myself having been burnt out. It’s true, I set myself back 2 years in terms of progression and earnings. I depleted a portion of my savings. Yet I would do it all over again.
I’m much happier in my current position having gotten that travel itch out of the way. I made awesome memories and developed my character. It felt like a huge mistake initially but taking that leap and realizing it wasn’t going to be the end of my career was somewhat liberating.
If you’re in your 30s and have more responsibilities, car payments, rent/mortgage and kids. Probably wouldn’t recommend it. Yet if you have sufficient savings you’ll be fine.
Don’t do that!!! Much rather have them PIP you.
This time of year can be rough for the job market. Year end budgets, hiring managers on vacation. I'd recommend at least waiting until the new year and job searching in the meantime.
Honestly, mentally checking out and job searching felt soothing because I felt like I could see the light at the end of the tunnel
If you have at least a year financial backup, you can consider. But you will not have much negotiation power for your next compensation if you don't have a job
