This might be a stupid question - is now a good time to rollover the lump sum from ex employers pension to my new employers 401k since the markets are down? Does it have the opportunity to grow more if I do it now, or is it all the same?

If it is just cash and not invested now, now is a good time to roll it over.

The pension has a 4% annual growth rate, but I'm hearing it would be better in the market in the long run if Im not close to retirement...

An advantage of the 401k could be if you could take a loan from it down the road. Those are plan by plan so you could ask hr if the 401k allows loans. I typically don’t advocate for taking these loans but it’s good to know your features available.

Pensions may not always be funded in the future.

Many private pensions are insured the the PBGC. Government pensions are not. I’m not aware of a government entity ever defaulting in it pension obligations. If you have a private pension you can ask if it’s insured by PBGC.

I posted something similar and most told me to just roll it over. I asked about investing into stocks and most advised just to look into VOO index funds.

Did you end up rolling it over?

Reading posts here it seems as engineers in the US get's atleast $100k, people with 4-5 YOE in SWE seems to have ~$250K. Working in Sweden my base pay is $50k, bonus per year of $5k and I usually have to work overtime making my salary in total at a maximum $70k. I have 4 YOE and also work as SWE. Sweden has a insanely high tax rate (employee tax is 33% below 56k, 50% over $56k). There's also employers tax, and highly taxed fuels, food, clothes, which ends up in total paying around in 80% tax.

Hey all, US born Tam Brahm here. Hope this isn’t too sensitive a topic to ask about, but for all those with deeper Indian roots than I do (born in or living in India), can you please explain why some people posit that even having this chat perpetuates the negative parts of a caste system? My perhaps naive perspective is that Brahmins are a caste but also a religious subsect. One can be religious and seek similar devotees without believing in or perpetuating caste hierarchy. Reductive or fair?

I have some collections on my credit report. One from an electric company for $800 (imo they violated terms of contract and sent me to collections in spite of their fuck up), and an apartment for $80~ that charged me a cleaning fee when my apartment was spotless.

Despite these two collections have a 712-720 credit score.

So mortgage lenders care at all about the collections or is it mostly the credit score that matters?
