At will employment cuts both ways. Take the offer you want - that bridge is burned though
Doubt most will remember this after a year or two
Do what's best for you and be professional about it. This happens all the time. Most of us get that. And anyone who takes it personally is an unprofessional spaz you probably don't want to work with anyway.
Fudge all of them. Do what’s best for YOU
I’ve had this happen to my team twice this year. It came off as extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. While it’s your career and your life you have to look out for, my advice is to be transparent when going through the offer acceptance process. This will help to prevent some (not all) burned bridges, and could even help with negotiations (though obviously won’t help turn them into the company you like more).
Yes you will burn the bridge, but no question I’d go with the offer from the better company. Taking the offer from an agency that’s a tier above (assuming that is the case here) puts you in a different league. So the burned bridge is likely to be inconsequential.
Did you accept it informally or legally?
That’s tough. Are you in a market that if you went back on it, it would get around? You never know who these people are and where they will be in a couple of years, when you are trying to find a new gig.
Go to the better agency.
