What would make me want to change my search to on-site? Honestly, laziness. I have become so lazy during these last 2 years that I would seriously consider forcing myself to go back to in person. It would get me to start moving again without it being a chore. I also miss being able to get coffee in the morning. As much as I do that now it's not the same lol. If this is with the same company, I would consider going in office to see my coworkers. Since they are bomb lol.
I also watch my nephews from time to time and as much as I love them they can be annoying and distracting while working. So going in office would be an excuse to get away from them hehe.
If the new company is offering perks like recreation exercises in office (ping pong tables, squash court etc) or free catered lunch that would also be enticing
Thanks for the input! We do have in-office games (cornhole & jenga!) a fully stocked fridge of beer & seltzers - a snack cart & sodas/healthy options.
Vacation & benefits perks. Even the recruitment firm I am partnered with is telling me the in-person requirement for our Solutions Engineering roles is our road block.
Im willing to adjust to get the right candidate, but the in person requirement is not something I have flex on.
I’m seeing the only offset to on-site in much higher comp. Which my company can’t do, we are struggling! We’re discussing changing our entire support model to limited to no on site support and fully remote.
Honestly just my 2 cents. Companies had proven they can work and deliver remotely & provide 2 things to their employees.
You see, I had a 2.5hr commute every day (round trip) prior to Covid. Now I save 2.5hrs of my time and 2.5hrs daily worth of mileage on my car and gas expenses not to mention west and tear of my vehicle.
then I got a divorce during Covid with custody of a child. Now I need to allot time to small human & have a flexible work schedule to accommodate pickup & drop-off not to mention more quality time due to what Covid had done to our children socially. Add in social classes, behaviour therapy & after school programs. It’s a lot. Every minute counts.
Companies have offered more of polishing up the old & tried selling it again “ping pong, free lunch, birthday cakes, pat on the bums” But honestly they don’t understand these old archaic items aren’t comparable to what they had provided…
They gave the public two things “time & flexibility” and proved they could make their businesses work in parallel. People had spent 2 years creating new lives around the time they gained and moved away further into more affordable homes & communities.
Now companies want to take it back without a valid justification on why stating it’s “culture” and they feel that they need it because it releases feel goods in their bloodstreams. (Throws hands in air) !?
Here’s a secret…I don’t think workers care.
Add in general rising costs of goods, real estate, inflation north of 6% and companies still are paying their measly 2% yearly raises. (Again throws hands in air)
In my instance my life has changed, there is NOTHING a company can offer to pull me away from my child. No pat on the face, no pizza party, no fire marshal hat.
Nothing. The problem is far larger than any HR department will be tasked to handle.
Sucks to be HR in these times.
It’s not easy. I know. (Hugs)
