Thoughts on KPMG? Do they win good work? Prestige? Culture? Etc

Prestige overall, my understanding is we are the bottom of the big 4 from everyone's perception. But fuck em, I'm the happiest of all my friends at other firms and am the only one I know who sees KPMG for the long run vs a two year gig. I think we are last due to bringing in the lowest revenue across the big 4 year over year. But hey, $24 bil isn't chump change...

like

Never again will I take a job based on a marginal difference in prestige. If I had to do it all over, I'd go with KPMG. 99% of the world doesn't differentiate the two of us, we are all just collectively known as part of the Big 4. KPMG seems to have happy people and is the only non MBB firm on this app that doesn't bombard the main feed with layoff/review posts

like

i was there and switched to pwc. they do not win good work from tech consulting and the lead partner left to go to pwc. LOL

like

It really depends per service network on prestige in the market place and the winning of good work; my team is growing and doing great but we have awesome leadership. Not every service network is like mine. I know finance consulting groups do well. I'm in MC. Overall culture, I'd say KPMG is really chill, laid back, aims for work life balance. I know a lot of Accenture people who came over to have less demanding of an environment here at Kpmg. Also, I think it's easier to break molds here. As in you can pursue work you like more and diversify versus only being able to focus on one small piece of one system and all projects refer to that expertise.

like

Oh, here are two quotes that stuck with me from interviews. 1. "We are not Deloitte for a reason." That one really left an impression on me. Essentially it is speaking to we don't bring in as much revenue because Kpmg aims for people to not be on 24/7. 2. "I haven't met one asshole yet." This speaks for itself. A partner said this to me, which also was awesome to see them so laid back to curse in front of me during an interview hah. But again!! Small sample set of a large company

like

yea but fastest growing doesnt mean you get the op. they told me i would be implementing SAP and when i got there they stuck me in it audit cause they didnt have work.

like

Considering how hard I've been working lately and concerns around it being noticed or not, I've lately been regretting not taking the KPMG offer I had on the table.

like

Totally dependent on client, but in my market KPMG is the largest firm. #rolereversal

like

Nah I support everything K1 said they just said it first. As projects go or depends what group you're in and again with the easy to moving around a lot anyone under manager will be moved to an open project that need people before they are ever let go. That being said some people end up on an IT audit project while their SAP project they were hired for is being won. It's easier to network with some very important higher ups. I've only encountered 2 truly crappy people. As for my teams, I've been on 3 long term engagements and I've truly made friends for life on all 3. The people are awesome and no one wants to work you until you burn out. Plus KPMG summer gift duh

like

@pwc3 probably in certain instances. In my practice we get a lot of sole sourced work and are definitely not the cheapest. In my practice area we are arguably the best. So just so you're aware it's not universal but likely in your industry

like

Interesting input @pwc3. I'd definitely say it depends on service line. I've been staffed 90% the past year, so at least for me it's not like we are not winning work. And the work I've been on, all the companies were large names where we competed with other firms. So id like to venture that hopefully clients are beginning to actual consider Kpmg, but again my service line could just be killing it and where Kpmg competes with pwc in for your work, we don't.

like

My client right now chose us past just experience but because they just liked my leadership as people. We beat out all the other big 4 and Accenture and IBM, and I'd say it was because we were just happy. My team right now has people who transferred to Kpmg from many other firms as well so diverse knowledge with happier people seems to have made an impression on client. Also client had ex consultants on its team from big firms and said everyone else acted pretentious, so I'm interested to see where Kpmg lands in 5 years if we begin to get consultants from all the other firms and who are just more enjoyable to be around bc they feel less "all that." (Not trying to have that come off rude! Just mentioning things I heard / sometimes people let prestige get to their heads like another fb mentioned above)

like

SO is there 👍🏻

There is more op to move around and they are the fastest growing Big4 #FlameSuitOn

Kpmg1 sounds like HR

Nah, pretty sure HR fishbowlers would say less of we are bottom of the big 4 and more of #flamesuiton. Was just bored and decided to help an OP out

@ kp1 Agreed with you. The top of the big 4 is debatable but the bottom is unquestionable. My clients send RFPs to kp even they know they won't give the work to kp; but kp will help them to lower bid price.

I mean, high level, the numbers speak. We have the lowest rev of the big 4 so we obviously lose work, but again we obviously win enough to make billions

Hi! I’ve been approached by Securonix for a Sales Director role in NA. I know the field and their competitors. The pay is good but I’ve seen a handful of websites with employee rating that is really bad. Each site has roughly 10 reviews but most are negative. Mostly referring to toxic culture and zero work life balance. How true is this in this sales org and the company in general? This is a backfill role after a 3 year tenure for the person who left.

How do I leave my role as someone on the talent team. I am on a small recruitment team of only a few people, who connect daily. I am also responsible for sending out updates tracking new hires and upcoming leavers (aka I would be on this list if i decide to leave). If I am looking to leave my company, considering all of these things, how do I do it in the least awkward, most professional way possible? I want to put in at least a two week notice, but will continuing my work after that be weird?

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
