Today the GC asked that we meet to go over my IDP so that we can make a plan for me to “step into her role should she leave.” She suggested a 2-3 year lead time on this - I’m currently a 7th year and agree that I’m not ready.

Part of me thinks this is a retention carrot as there are changes going on here (mostly good - lots of growth). What would you make of this request? Any advice/experiences?

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. My therapist just told me I'm depressed..do you ever feel like they tell you things you hear a lot or could have figured out on your own? Had my 2nd interview with the hiring manager this past Friday & sent a thank you shortly after. It's now Tuesday (for those who see this on another day). When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?

I have practiced for five years and make $121k as an employee of a financial services company. As the only attorney, I oversee all statewide collections efforts, from demand letter to garnishment, with a case volume of nearly 7k new cases per year, of which the majority I end up litigating. I receive only a $1k bonus per year. Is my compensation fair? My last insurance defense gig was $75k.

My Y1/Y2 background was V20 ECVC hard hitting firm in the Bay, and now I’m at a large boutique with a strong rep in this field in So Cal. I don’t want to make partner, so I’m exploring what options there may be to go in house with an ECVC background. Any insight on responsibilities, W/L balance, leadership, etc in these in house roles?
