Hello Everyone,
I am a fresher with over 9+ months of experience as a Data Engineer at Tata Consultancy .
I just needed some suggestions from you experienced folks.🙏
In my current project my colleagues have over 6+ years of experience and are not very supportive and scold me for unnecessary reasons, which is effecting my mental health.😔
Also I am not getting to learn anything.

Amazon folks - need to reschedule an inteview due to an unforeseen work commitment. Wondering if it's going to look bad/impact the interviewing chances if I were to ask for a reschedule? It's taken months of applying to get one so don't want to jeopardize but the current job committment is going to be difficult to get out of (unless I call in sick). Recommendations?

Sigh - this is why we get sued.
I would write her an email and say we have discussed this previously bla bla. It is an incredibly important religious holiday in the Muslim community. I appreciate your understanding.
If she responds positively. Super.
If not, forward to your pp and say sorry to bug you, not sure how to handle this. Would really appreciate your help.
Change your manager

Like others say, take it off. But for future reference take both days off, and cancel the PTO day that’s not it.
I do this around my birthday every year (I know it’s different). I know I’ll be taking a day off before and/or after my birthday. So I just request both days off and closer to the date I decide which ones I keep, and which one so work.
Company/boss is always happy having me work an “extra” day, and I don’t have to explain anything to anyone.
Yep. Came here to say this. Just book both days next year. I’m definitely not on your manager’s side at all but, lesson learned, play smarter next year. Sorry you’re going through this. Ridiculous.
Despite all those idiots complaining about DEI, this is why training is important

Just spoke to her on a call, she asked me to write a detailed handover email for any work or meetings she needs to find cover for, I said there are no client facing meetings in my diary and condensed my tasks this week into 4 days to account for Eid falling on Friday. She asked me to work the morning only (I guess I’ll move my mouse on teams??) but to be on standby for the afternoon (for God knows). I said I would like to attend Eid prayers in the morning as it means a lot to me and she said I should attend Eid prayers and then log on and work till lunch. I‘ll take it. She isn’t a nice person and I accepted that a while ago. I’ll be raising with HR too. Thanks for all your useful advice.
This is not how people should be treated.
Take it off, what is she going to do? No shot a manager will explain to their bosses that she didn’t give you a religious holiday off. Happy Eid!
Raise this to your HR and absolutely take off !
Rising Star
Absolutely!
Op - no one can stop you from taking time off to celebrate your festivity! And also personally, you need to prioritize being with family over such organizations and managers.
Happy Eid in advance OP!! Eid Mubarak!
Learned lessons for the future: document verbal conversation agreements via email follow-up notes. For date uncertainty, book both and cancel if needed.
Btw, you discussed this atuff in february, but have you been bringing up the need to plan for your absence over the past month? This should have been discussed again over the past few weeks, not left to be a thursday surprise.
For the record, I'm not siding with the manager regarding the decision. I'm discussing how OP managed and communicated.
Yes, it is on the manager, but we shouldn't lose sight of the things OP could have done to prevent this scenario, and can do to prevent similar things from happening in the future.
As consultants why do we have to act as if we are doing trauma surgery and no one on the team can ever take a day off on short notice
Honeslty this is what I find very irritating! No one is going to die so calm Tf down.
Sounds like a personal problem for the manager.
Which company is this?

Eid Mubarak !
I will be iA!
Forward her reply to HR asking what the leave policy is for taking a single day for Eid per her direction and see how they reply.
Eid Kareem to you, OP! But Seriously, never do what you did! The correct thing to do is right at the start of Ramadan - on the very first day, you should just enter your PTO request for whatever day could be Ramadan 30th and the next day off, so that if there is no Ramadan 30 and that day turns out being Eid, great, you just have a 2-day PTO from work (even better) instead of the one day. I am a Muslim manager. It is irresponsible to wait for the new moon sighting and take it off at the last minute because it gives project managers of busy/complex programs literally no time to plan coverage for your functions while you are off. You need to be more responsible than this in this country where there is no understanding of last minute moon sightings. Please work within the parameters. I wish you and your family all the blessings and joy of Eid. Also, after Eid, maybe consider looking for a new project as it’s no fun to work with a manager who you feel (for other valid reasons besides this) is not a nice person - don’t stand for that too long, it’s not worth it to you.
I understand where you’re coming from but this isn’t the approach we should be pushing for and it sets the wrong precedent. Op should not be forced to take two days off to accommodate his manager for a religious holiday. As long as they clearly communicated to their manager, which it sounds like they did, then the manager needs to start being a human above all and accommodate op. Our work does not consist of saving lives, the manager is being unreasonable. To me it sounds like the manager dropped the ball on creating an effective coverage plan in advance then took it out on op.
Really surprised that this still happens with all the DEI emails I see first thing in the morning… submit a loop survey and definitely raise it with HR. I would even share this with the person’s Coach if you have that info. Also, if I were you I wouldn’t even ask for permission - I would just drop an FYI, set up an OOO, not log in at all, and enjoy the day with family. Eid Mubarak!
Hello? Who runs things? White people. (I’m white, no I have no power). Have you even been paying attention at all to what has been happening in the US against anyone who is not in the privileged class?
What firm? Unbelievable
Capgemini NA just had an informative meeting yesterday on the customs of Ramadan. Are you in NA? This is a huge miss on your managers part.
Lol I told my manager earlier this week that I may or may not take Friday off for Eid. We’re on site for client next week, and I asked if I can finish/ stay on top of deliverables prior to Friday so we don’t stress. He said nbd.
Push back hard. You’re supposed to work around life, not live around work.
You have to book that far in advance? Manager sounds shitty
Please report her to HR and then report back to us on what the follow-up is. I think a lot of us on this thread are eager to hear that she’s being held accountable somehow, this is egregious.
Ask her why she hates Muslims
Take it off!
I wish I knew you and this manager! It would have been on! Just take care of yourself. Happy Ramadan!
