British Always is usually the best way to check award availability on OneWorld partners. If it shows available there, then call and have them book the flight.
Not for awards that can't be booked online.
Just because a fare is available for purchase with cash does not mean it’s available for purchase with miles. First you need to find out if there are any JAL mileage fares available on that route.
With miles, you have to be flexible in your dates. AA is limited to the inventory JL makes available to OneWorld partner airlines; this is the same on the other two big airline alliances as well. Generally fewer seats are available to partners than available to the airline’s own mileage members. Keep trying, and also if you got a phone agent that comes back with “nothing available this month” or similar instantly on the phone, politely hang up and try to get a less lazy one.
You may also have better luck with a couple other strategies, such as:
- Book AA to Tokyo then JL to Hiroshima
- Search for other transpacific flights on JL (maybe check San Diego/San Francisco/Seattle to Tokyo) then ask the phone agent to find an AA flight that connects there from LAX
- Get yourself to Tokyo on miles, then buy a cheap ticket to Hiroshima. There are plenty of flights from Tokyo Haneda and Narita airports to Hiroshima
- Try not to change airports unless you plan to overnight in Tokyo. This can be challenging as the majority of transpacific flights go to Tokyo Narita, but Tokyo Haneda has most domestic flights. There are some US-Haneda flights, but not tons. Research how to transfer between airports and how long to allow before booking.
Just post the dates you’re looking for here and I’ll look it up for you.
Thanks for offering the help! AA reconfirmed that JAL flight was not available to purchase with award miles for Feb 15 from Hiroshima to LAX. I think Osaka to LAX works though!
And I have platinum pro status with American
Well, what does the JAL booking website say?
@P1 not sure what you mean by that? The flights are available to purchase with cash. I don’t know how to book on JAL website using American miles, is that even possible?
It isn’t possible.
The seat being available for cash doesn’t mean it will be available for points, especially with JAL. Check on the BA or JAL site if award tickets are available on that flight and if they are, call American and book them.
I’m not seeing anywhere on JALs booking website that shows if oneworld availability exists for the routes I’ve searched
OP please read the responses of others above, they provide some good info
