The more you drive, the higher, the risk probability of being involved in an accident, or some other kind of loss the less you drive, the less risk impact, so it makes sense that someone who doesn’t utilize their vehicle so frequently as someone who does pays less. It’s all about risk

likesmart

It makes a lot of sense. There is a new insurance company that is solely based on your milages

Yes, this is pretty common I think. I have done this with my insurance carrier in the past (not USAA)

like

What happened with it? Did they change your rate?

This is pretty standard for most companies.

like

Not surprised, “we” gave people discounts automatically during Covid. Without SafePilot telematics they would just have to take everyone at their word.

like

And will they go back up if we are driving again and our normal rate?

like

We started asking for something similar at Geico after the pandemic.

like

This is true. We’re not asking for mileage at renewal time.

So two fold answer. Yes many other companies do this. And the reason USAA is doing it because of revenue and in a certain state this is part of the requirements by the doi filings

like

Same.

This is common across many companies. At USAA, one of the auto rating variables (for many states, if not all at this point) is annual mileage which is why you’re being asked.

like

Yes, that’s pretty standard and I remembered providing that when I was shopping around. They want to know if you drive a lot (more accidents prone) which affect your premium.

like

It’s normal - and I’d bet good money you are in CA.

like

Have you been driving more than normal? They probably just want a record of it.

Yeah that’s 100% normal. “You only pay for what you use” is not a unique “feature” to Liberty.

This is normal. You can always say it’s less but if they pull inspection documents they can get it updated. Basically. The more you’re on the road the higher probability you have to being involved in a loss.

Yes, at GEICO we send out what we call “vehicle usage” questionnaires every 6 months by mail and email. We do this to make sure we’re rating you for the right risk.

Every carrier should verify mileage. We're in a risk based business.

Yes it is common trying to update since most severely under estimate mileage
