Weird of her to ask, weird of you to say no
Without knowing the bride's culture, it is hard to say. For me, I am Asian so red and white are reserved for the bride.
White is the only color that’s still really off limits for weddings. Weird to have an issue with red unless the bride is wearing it
I heard red was a no go for wedding guests… the fact that she asked means she knew it’s not what you’re supposed to do, especially not being close with the couple
I've always known red and white to be hard no's for weddings. A maroon or burgundy is fine, but bright red no. I've always known wearing red to be an attention seeking move so I've also always stayed away from that or any bold colors to weddings
Still don’t understand understand why people except their guests to look basic. It’s your day and I don’t think anyone can steal it from you. I understand white or red if you are Asian but otherwise you are doing the most from my pov
Are you brown? In desi weddings, the bride wears red. If either of you are desi, it might be the reason for the ask or the decline
Not desi and the girl who asked is white. I see red as being more of an attention grabbing color not appropriate for a wedding
She asked, so no you weren't being a jerk. And red at a wedding has different connotations for different cultures. She asked because she thought it might be an issue. So you answered move on....lots more stuff to occupy your time.
So this is very much a cultural thing fyi (I know red is considered lucky and is often a special event color / commonly used as a dress color in Chinese weddings). She was probably asking for this reason. In this case I would probably reach back out to groomsman’s gf through him or fb message her or something, apologize for the misunderstanding and tell her yes red is fine and thanks for asking. Honestly, if she asked you about a white dress, no would of course be the standard response but this is REALLY reaching
Off topic but you are very nice for giving your groomsman a date without knowing her!!
Yes, I was livid. And mad at myself for saying she can come lol
There was this wild Reddit thread a few years ago about a sister-in-law who wore red. The bride insisted that people wear red to weddings are signaling that they’ve slept with the groom. So maybe avoid that 😂
