Ladies' need some positive vibe. Laid off recently from a big 4 due to practice not having projects and also some amount of politics involved. Worked my ass of for the practice (contd.)
Any signs of MBB travel hours/week changing significantly post-pandemic? Alternatively, are there any particular projects at MBB with less work hours/week, say like a defense gig? I’m really just trying to not scare myself away from MBB, but WLB is very important to me. Currently at Big4 with a fairly nice WLB and I’d love to pursue a MBB opportunity post-MBA for potentially better business experience/exit ops (more Advise work vs implement/operate done at Big4)
Thoughts on moving in-house at the end of maternity leave from Big Law? Will it burn bridges at my firm? I’m a mid-level currently on leave, and was just offered a position with a high-growth sister company of one of my firm’s largest clients. A part of me thinks that my practice group leader will be happy to have me there to bring future business his way, but another voice in my head says I’m just fooling myself and that resigning after a 20-week leave is bound to piss people off.
I don’t want to burn my bridges, but my dream agency contacted me after being at my new job for a month! I’m all for sticking it out, but this other opportunity allows for more creativity, closer to home, and most likely better pay. Anybody ever been in this position, and what did you do?
Part of layoffs today 😡
Just received a COBRA insurance letter from current employer - recently got hired by this employer. I’m confused, I thought COBRA was offered after you resigned or are laid off?
Partners - what made you decide (and when was this) to pursue the Partner track vs taking a sweet industry exit? Do you believe that certain personalities/traits in people make them better suited to go the Partner route?
For those in senior positions- how are you not constantly worried about the success of your work? There’s so many things that can affect P&L that are out of your control, how do you stay calm and not feel like you’re going to get fired as soon as growth slows?
I’d like to apologize in advance as this maybe a touchy topic for certain folks. For those that have been in the Big 4 for sometime now (i.e. was hired before this covid induced hiring spree over the past couple months), are you concerned that your market value would decrease as a result of the firms hiring people left and right? In other words, the recruiting has been excessively relaxed now compared to when there was intense competition.
I have had a rough 2 weeks. I was ghosted by the guy I was seeing for 7 months and then today I was laid off from my agency due to them losing clients and not doing well financially. I just feel so
At Amazon, I’ve been inclined as a high level L4 SWE (I have over 5 YOE). I was told I did very well on System Design and LP (I didn’t do as well on the coding interviews). How can I still make a case to come in as L5?
Do top 10 schools generally fly you out for interviews? Or are they mostly Skype? Or do you have to pay your way to interview in person? Does it depend on the school?
One week post final round interview but no feedback yet. Is it over / am I ghosted? Tech company
Current M&A tax associate, just got off the phone with a recruiter for a senior M&A position at a private company. Involves a massive raise but with the caveat I won’t be under a CPA to get the experience to be licensed. Should this be a deal breaker? I don’t think I want to stay in accounting/tax long term but it feels somewhat wrong to have spent all that time on the exams just to not get licensed. Thoughts?
Checking in with those who were laid off a few months ago. How are you all doing? Are you having any luck finding open positions?
For FAANG and other large + well paid + good brand companies, what % of job requirements do you need to meet in order to get an interview or offer? I’ve gotten some interviews but no offers when I meet all but 1-2 nice-to-have (not mandatory) requirements, so I’m wondering if you need to be overqualified for jobs these days to get interviews and offers.
How do I have the conversation with a Partner about writing a letter of rec for a PhD program? Will I put myself a risk of being laid off if I express interest in continuing my education?
Should I be worried if I have constantly bounced from short project to project (excellent performance) and don't really see myself with a single tangible/transferable skill? I'm 1.5 yrs in & 24.
I’m currently a Big 4 GPS C with 2 YOE. What’s the minimum TC % increase you would take if you moved to an industry Strategy & Ops role? Additional context: Move would be DC > Austin Currently making $88k
Left PwC about a month ago. I cleared my expense buffer on Concur before leaving and then submitted any pending charges using the form issued by HR. However I still have an outstanding balance of 1K
does anyone here have experience freelancing while taking care of a newborn? would love to hear your approach/perspective. my husband and I both work from home and his job is so lax, it’s practically part time. trying to formulate a plan for returning to freelance life after the kid is born.
If you were laid off from your last job do you think it will affected your negotiation in your next job?
AAS vs FAAS what's the difference? Coming from audit so appreciate all the info. 1. What are the hours throughout the year? 2. Does the role require a lot of travel? 3. I have 2 years of audit experience. How much I can expect for base salary in NYC?
How do you go about disclosing it to your partner/team if you’re jumping ship from one b4 to another? Don’t want to burn bridges
What’s the best travel policy by firm? We have nothing but hoping to be upgraded... Flying coast to coast on economy every week is exhausting... I assume MBB allows first class flights. Big 4?
Was asked if I want to be the go to person for a certain tax area. Me and one senior were asked, but they are out on PTO. I don’t want to leave the manager hanging for an entire week but also don’t want to take the opportunity from the senior if they’re really interested (I’m willing, but not dying to do it and they want someone with interest). The senior also has more experience, of course - Im 100% unfamiliar with the area. What’s the best thing to do or say?
Wows, just rolled onto a new program leading my normal workstrem, client pulled me into a room today (day the third) and said that they don't want to see my face again (cont.)
In Lady Gaga's voice 🎶There ain't no reason you and me should be alone Tonight yeah baby, tonight yeah baby But I got a reason that you-hoo should take me home tonight I need a man that makes it ri
I’ve been working 12 hours a day minimum since I was 11 years old .. so now 12 hour days feel like play for me. Also put me infront of a screen for 24 hours and I won’t move until I need to go to sleep . I have been like that since I was a kid so now it’s in my blood. I never felt I was working. I’m always curious and my mind goes 1000 miles an hour . What about you? Do you feel it’s work and CBF after 8 hours? Or you feel it’s your hood and you can’t have enough of it?
What classroom management tips do you have for a nontraditional 3rd year teacher? I teach middle schoolers science. Looking for new techniques that will help me make year 4 a lot better than the previous years.
For any POC creatives, have you ever had to explain to a recruiter why you're considered a diversity candidate? This was the first time I felt like I had to prove my diversity/minority background.
I think (fingers crossed) that I am about to get a job offer for a management role. It would be a 45 percent pay increase and I honestly might be able to negotiate it to up to 55, but I just don’t feel excited about it. It’s a smaller company then where I am now, but still a decent size and great reputation, but the team is much smaller. I really want to be more excited because I know it’s a good opportunity. Any advice?
Has anyone done contractual work after big4 technical roles? I would like to ask some questions but in general want to know any pros and cons. Currently making 140k in cloud with pathetic employer match and bonus and want to see how much upside there is in contract work and the billing rate I should seek as w2
Anyone have the nectar mattress and think it's good? All the work from home and not in a hotel bed is making me realize I need a new mattress
Is a pet insurance needed/ worth -if my pup is from a responsible breeder (and so hoping potentially less health issues)? If so - any recommendations? Thanks..
