Went analyst to associate and going into associate 3 role next year. Starting to hit a wall and considering exit opps. Any advice from those that have left banking as an associate w/ no MBA? Concerned about how many years back I may need to take to exit and what opportunities may be available.

If you want to exit, now is the time. Becomes much harder once you make VP. Speaking from experience and a tinge of regret

like

OP, I think they're saying that VP roles start to look at candidates with subject matter expertise. If you want to pivot it's harder to do that as a VP versus an associate where companies consider you to be junior and more moldable. You may have to take a more junior title and a paycut depending on your goals.

Hey man I don’t have the right answer for you. However I was wondering how your time in investment banking is.

like

It’s fairly similar to what you would expect. Gain more responsibility with time. The job is time intensive, not nonstop work, but always on call and very little control in your day to day. If you want a job early in your career that maximizes C-Suite interaction and gets you in conversations with decision makers, banking is a great job. Just don’t expect to be making decisions until 7-9 years in.

Would it be hard to get a exp associate role in advisory at a B4 as someone with about 10 months in audit at EY, 7 months experience in corporate accounting at a F300 and CPA? Hated my time at the F300 but had thought the grass would be greener in industry. I’m starting a financial analyst position at a major hospital system in my area soon and want to stick with that for a couple years before making a transition but was curious if I just don’t have the right experience for a role in advisory.

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?
