Hi fishers! I have offer and signed contract with Deloitte UK and my start day is in the beginning of April. I need skilled worker visa, and we haven’t applied yet for that. Screening and onboarding is in progress. Immigration team doesn’t reply since reached me out 1st time. How much time does it usually needed to go through the whole process? How many days take for visa to be approved since application?Deloitte

No shame in taking a bridge job to pay the bills while you keep an eye on the market
It’s good you have something in the meantime. I’d recommend trying to learn about AI. It’s being rapidly integrated in the workforce and if you do not have knowledge and or skills in this I imagine it will be hard to market yourself in the coming years. Good luck!
Any resources you can recommend?
OP - I don’t have tips on networking as I’m an introvert myself and hate meaningless networking. However I can address the other part of the question. It is important to up-skill ourselves and specially take note of which industries and skills are in demand! One answer is clearly GenAI. I found the following graph on X where a user posted which roles are going to be in demand (he also posted which won’t be.. can share that image as well if need be)
But look at the skills and get basic trainings on AI or Cloud (next best thing) most are provided by AWS, Google, Coursera- try to look for them.
Just wondering why did you take the pay cut in the first place?
No
I would really consider whether you were overpaid before. Were you in tech?
At your upcoming job will you be set with expenses? Consider looking for a 2nd job you could do in 40 hrs. I have a friend who’s a VP at a company, she managed to juggle 3 jobs and could get them done in 40 hrs/week - yes she was over-employed but she needed to bridge a gap after being out of work for 18 mos.
Yes it was tech. A realistic industry salary range for someone with my background and experience is $120-$150 base
