Reno and SLC actually aren't bad airportwise, so the travel probably won't kill you. Reno is super fun too. SLC is an extra hour ahead.
SLC is a Delta hub, international actually (North America only), but you could get to major international cities with 1 connection.
The pollution in SLC and winter inversion layer are real though. Clients I have worked with from there are so active outdoors it’s inspiring.
Reno would be nice and still has a West Coast vibe. Easy access to Tahoe and open space, no income tax, Nonstops to JFK. If work shifts to West Coast, or you’re looking to get away, just a short 3.5 hour drive to the Bay or a short 45 min flight to SJC/SFO, and close enough to LA that BUR is still an option.
I would be asking myself if my interest in living in any of these places would persist post-pandemic... if yes, that would be a big pro and a major deciding factor for me.
