What are some good questions to ask in interviews to answer the “so do you have any questions ” part. I always fumble it

How is success measured (for the group I’m joining and for the specific role I’m taking on)?

What learning and development opportunities will exist for me?

How would you describe the work/life balance at this company?

How tactical is this role vs strategic?

What types of projects does this team typically get? What types of projects will I be staffed on right away?

How is this team regarded by the agency at large (ie what is this team’s reputation within the company)?

likefunnysmarthelpful

These are all great inquiries to the interviewer. It is important to interview the company and make sure they are a right fit for you as well.

like

Some of my go-to’s:

1. Can you tell me more about the culture?
- shows you care about finding the right fit

2. How would you describe the perfect [insert job title] that you’d like to work with?
- shows you care about what THEY want, not just what’s in it for you

3. Are there any traits you find common amongst the top performers here?
- this question always gets a great reaction, it’s a little off-radar so it implies you’ve given this some good thought

4. listen :)

I always ask them how they envision the next five years for the agency. Helps me get a sense for whether they’re moving in the right direction and gives them the impression that I’m in it for the long haul.

I usually ask about specific culture points (do you guys have any traditions like team outings/extra curriculars like a soccer team?) which makes it seem like you’re deeply invested and want a well rounded experience there. I’ll also ask if I’d have the chance to hone some skills I want to work on...presenting for example. Gives the impression that you are eager and want to keep learning

likefunny

I ask them to tell me a story about something that happened there that really reveals the culture of the place. Very telling. Always ask fir stories. They get caught up in the story and tell you things they would not otherwise reveal

I think the following questions are important to ask when interviewing:

Who will I report to?

Can you describe your leadership style and how it impacts the people who work under you?

Will I work on one account or across several?

What does success in this position look like after 90 days?

Are there opportunities for growth?

What does work-life balance mean to you and how does the agency execute that?

Are there any challenges one would face in this position?

What’s kept you at (insert company name) for x amount of years? (Look this info up on LinkedIn).

Keep in mind, people love to talk about themselves. If you can make them comfortable they will tell you more or let something slip that gives you insight into the company.

like

I often ask the interviewer’s favorite parts of working there, what’s been challenging, and about growth.

like

I ask if they’ve been pitching lately, what accounts they see this role touching, how much I may be working with other depts (outside the norm), possibly what the makeup of the team is and who I’ll be working with. An interview is a two way street, gotta make sure this job is the right fit for me.

like

If it’s a final interview- do you have any hesitations in hiring me?

If they answer honestly, it gives you a chance to clarify or give a different POV. If there’s nothing, great.

likesmart

Interesting! Thanks for sharing :)

What’s the first thing someone in this role can implement that you could see as having a big impact?

like

Ask them what kind of work they’re looking to do. How do they define “good” work. If it’s vague or about craft back away

likesmart

Ask what they enjoy about working there. People like to share their experiences. Plus it'll show you're not just focused on you.

like

Why are you hiring for this position?

What do you like least/most about working hear?

Who’s wrong for this role?

What’s the biggest challenge for this role/account/agency?

like

One question that always wins for me:

What’s the difference between an outstanding employee vs a satisfactory employee in this position?

Also:

How does the agency foster growth of their employees?
What was your greatest achievement?
What are the opportunities/challenges for this department?

smart

I ask about everything. The client, the culture the HOURS. Don't shy away from the hours. Your interview needs to be honest so you know what to expect walking in.

Hi! I had an interview from a company as a graphic designer. They have moved my application forward and gave me a designer task. I have been following up and they always said that they are still reviewing all the other task from the candidates. They said they will give an updates twice after following up every week. I had the interview and task 3 weeks ago. Do you guys think that I still have a chance?

Thank you ❤️
