High salary, not so strong network
You can call me intern for all I care. Gimme that check
It depends on your situation. I’m moving to another consulting firm. Currently at M level. A lot of the comments here are for if you’re going to be a lifer. You need to build up your network over time to climb the corporate ladder to partner. I’m moving because I don’t think I jive with my current group and the TC outweighs the risk. My current long term goal is either big tech or go independent. I see having a breadth in network more valuable than depth for my long term goals
I see... yea in that case I might go down the contractor route too 😅
Pros: more $
Cons: need to continually restart your network; as your career progresses, 3 years isn’t enough time to get the network, experience, and support required for promotion
No harm in doing so once or twice as an analyst/consultant but by the time you’re thinking about SM promotion you’re not going to be helping yourself by bouncing around
Sounds good. Made a move at 1YOE and raised my salary by 15k

Pro: You can fill out your Consulting Bingo™ card way quicker than others who don't jump around.
Cons: People outside of the insular consulting niche will think you're pulling their leg when you tell them the names of all the companies you've worked for, most of which they've never heard of, or associate with a different industry (e.g. B4 and accounting).
Most of my friends work in finance/consulting so they know. It be that way when I talk to my girlfriends friends tho 😂
Jump to MBB and just stay. There is none of the salary band BS that exists in the Big 4.
That’s also one way to do it 😅
Eventually you need to stop jumping …. But fastest way to $$ is via new companies
Jumping between firms works great at junior levels, but becomes less effective when you're a manager level who wants to become SM, and much less effective if you're an SM who wants to become MD/Partner. At lower levels, the decision is more about just needing decent workers to make slides, and at M, run a project. But upon making M, it changes to if they see that person selling work, building internal supporters and being a partner one day, which is a different ball game.
In short, Big 4 A will offer a senior consultant role to an consultant at Big 4 B without too much fuss. But Big 4 A is relatively unlikely to offer Partner to an SM at Big 4 B.
